Maguindanao Pearls

The story “Maguindanao Pearls”, adapted by Isidro Retizos was about a love story which obviously has love triangles and happy endings but unlike other love stories this doesn't have a happy ending. The main characters in the story are Magiting, Sinag-Tala, and Lakambini. In the story Lakambini, who is the rajahs daughter, was madly in love with Magiting and she was the reason of the death of Sinag-Tala. Sinag-Tala, whom Magiting likes and wanted to wed, is a common basket weaver in their barangay. She was accused of stealing Lakambini’s priceless pearls, which she did not actually do. Magiting is Walang Gulat, whom Lakambini likes, as the son of the chief of Pasigan.

After reading the story, I thought that we should not give up when we want something. We should work hard for it and make sacrifices but we should not forget to be good and pray to God. Even though if the person you love doesn’t love you back, we should not kill or hate whom that person loves. Unlike what Lakambini did, we should respect whom he likes and support him with his decision.
